I've been seeing rucksacks everywhere lately and it kind of reminds me of circa 1992 when they were a big hit (remember those teeny tiny ones girls used to wear, especially in black nylon? eheheheeeww!). It's a funny feeling to see something that was once an essential part of your outfit (mine was a nice big brown leather one though!) come back into fashion. I'm not sure I'm on board with it this time - and, of course, as I'm not in school anymore, the need for such a thing is minimal. But since this is the biggest travel weekend in Iceland, I thought I'd share a few I've seen around the web and quite like.

Swedish army rucksacks on etsy.

Vintage 80's leather rucksack with map print (my favorite) on ebay.

What do you think, are you getting a rucksack for winter? If yes, then what kind?

More living room inspiration

So I sold my sofas and I'm borrowing/storing a friends sofa that looks a bit like the grey one in this picture. I'm still getting my living room to work and found this image on Rum magazine's website.

While I was browsing, I came across these two images (totally random, nothing to do with my living room). Don't you think the views are to die for?

Get a glimpse of the August issue here.

Una play kitchen

Here is a play kitchen I wouldn't mind having in grown up size (and it's blind friendly!)

Stylish bloganistas

Have you always wanted to know what your favorite bloggers dress like? Well, on Flickr there's a group dedicated to stylish bloganistas, where they can share with us their outfits and lovely sense of style. My two favorites have to be Viv, of Ish and Chi, and Ivy (not sure if that's her real name) of Busy Bee's Blog. Aren't they adorable?

I'm wondering wheather I should join the group... it would certainly encourage me to make more of an effort. It's high time as well, you sort of tend to forget yourself in the whole baby/family frenzy!

Sexy leather furniture by Tortie Hoare

Check out these sexy designs from Tortie Hoare, who was awarded the New Designer of the Year prize at the UK graduate exhibition New Designers Part 2, for her boiled leather furniture. The process was used in the middle ages to create armour.

Seen on Dezeen, head over there for many more pictures. The table reminds me of the sixties' telephone tables, I'd use it as a coffee table with my favorite magazines tucked into the leather pouch (or dare I dream, an iPad... oh gosh, I had to look up the spelling!)

Another design team I can't believe I haven't told you about before is Emami, a "fresh Scandinavian design team cooperating with young, innovative designers in making unique, quality clothing. The design is very avant-guard and is based on the theme of limitlessness and multifunction. Emami wants to encourage young women to give way to their creativity and create their own individual style", as they say on their website. It was started by two young Icelandic women a few years ago when they launched their "limitless dress" and the collection has been growing bigger and bigger ever since. All their pieces are multifunctional, a dress becomes a skirt, becomes trousers, become a top! Check out these pictures and have a look on their website, you will be amazed!

Here's a video that shows the many ways to wear the "limitless dress". I have it in black and I wear it all the time!

Varius Iceland

I can't believe I haven't blogged about the fabulous designs of Varius Iceland yet! Two of my very sweet friends design and make these by hand. Aren't they gorgeous?

I especially love the shoulder pads/decorations(pic 1 and 3), perfect to make a plain dress into a statement piece. Also their earrings, necklaces, wall stickers...

Check out tons of more photos here and shop here.

IKEA Stuva

Liking the new Stuva kids furniture line at IKEA, seen over on Apartment Therapy. The closet is my favorite, I hope it's well organised inside (as in not just one clothing rail and no drawers or shelves). I might just consider it for my boys' room.

Loving these chopsticandles from designer Meirav Barzilay... for a lovely relaxed date at home; eat your take-a-way, light your candles and cozy up :)

Summertime indeed!

We're back from our visit to the summerhouse. My friend's parents have had it for about 30 years and have created a little haven just a short drive from Reykjavík, the perfect getaway place. We had such a fantastic time, had fun with the kids, ate humongous meals, sunbathed, went for walks, visited the nearby little town of Laugavatn... The picture describes just the incredible atmosphere of this place.

Well it's been summertime already for some time, but as of today, it's official! I'm off work for two weeks and I'm starting by going to a friend's summerhouse and after that, who knows? Some camping maybe, or just Reykjavík City chilling! Would love to hang out poolside!

I'm selling my sofas!

No, not the sofa in this picture! But this is the picture that made me decide to finally go ahead and do it. I want a living room like this! I desperately neeeeed a living room like this! I swear I went weak at the knees and my heart skipped a beat when I saw this picture over on poppytalk

So. It's decided! Below is a picture of my sofas. I'm also going to change the curtains, get some light-weight white ones. Sadly, I can't do anything about the floors right now, but I would love to have white painted wooden floors... aaah, one day, one day!

I just can't get over how perfect that living room is... *sigh*

This week in pictures

Sorry for the lack of posting yesterday. My little Sam is ill and I fell asleep while nursing him to sleep. So today I feel all nice and refreshed after 12 hours of sleep. So anyway, this is the post I meant to do yesterday, my week in pictures.

On Sunday I celebrated my birthday

On Tuesday I went and bought a new pair of shoes

On wednesday the biggest Gym in Reykjavik had a great deal on monthly memberships, so I went and joined. So far I've done an 'abs and back' class and a 'Salsa fitness' class. Watch out Jane Fonda, here I come!

(Picture borrowed from Ambush Studio)

Oh and Face Hunter is in town... haven't seen him though, but have been doing my best to dress stylishly... just in case!

(Picture from Face Hunter - obviously ;)

The Glass Castle

I'm reading the last pages of this amazing book, The Glass Castle by Jeanette Walls. It tells the true story of her life, being raised by eccentric, nomadic parents; Rose Mary, her frustrated-artist mother, and Rex, her brilliant, alcoholic father. They believed children should learn from their own mistakes and learn to take care of themselves from a young age, so her and her siblings were largely left to their own devices. They lived in utter poverty, not having heat, electricity, or even food at times and had to eat whatever they could find in the garbage. And yet she tells her story with such love and humour that I've hardly been able to put it down. It's one of those books that affect you so much that your view on every day things is turned upside down. If you haven't read it yet, I strongly recommend that you do so! Maybe not the perfect book to read on the beach, but a great holiday read none the less.

Adorable DIY

I just love this DIY project by Kim Werker, made from an old doorpanel and given a modern twist with the yellow legs. Spotted over on Poppytalk. Gives me ideas for a whole range of furniture!
