Found! (finally)

I have been looking for the perfect pendant light for my hallway for ever (or 4 years since that's how long we've been living here) and I finally found it! It's so gorgeous and fun :)

It's by dóttir & sonur, " a multidisciplinary creative couple; serving design, creative direction and cunsultancy in both digital and printed media". They also make this amazing wallpaper.

The smallest shared bedroom ever!

When it was time for Sam, our younger son, to move on from his crib we decided to switch bedrooms, George and Sam got our big bedroom and we got George's small room. Ella, our youngest, is now sharing this room with us... it's about 9 square meters (just over 90 square feet) so it's pretty crammed (double bed, crib, changing table, small closet). We chose to go all white in here, not just because of the tight space but also because I just love a crisp clean bedroom... it's just so relaxing to wake up to a non fussy, clutter free space. We've added a few personal touches though, and I'm planning to hang a couple of pictures similar to what I did above Sam's changing table. A few pics:

The room is tiny but we love it. Later, when George starts school we're giving him his old room back and Sam and Ella will share the bigger room. Terry and I will move into the smaller living room (we have joint living rooms and we hardly ever use the bigger one. I'm exited about this change, it will be a much better use of the space and I'm looking forward to decorate our "new" living room.

A new sofa!

Our old sofa was turning into a health hazard, so I couldn't believe my luck when I found a second hand yellow kramfors sofa online for a very reasonable price. Love the yellow, and it was just in time for easter! The photo is not from our living room though, it's from Jan's light and bright living room. The colours in his home are similar to ours, I just haven't had the chance to photograph ours properly... I'll have to do a house tour soon!

I've been looking for a lamp for the living room for the longest time, something cheap and gorgeous of course, and this might just be it!

Corners of my home

I always have a million projects going but very seldom finish them. Once I showed you my bedroom before, but never got to the after. We have since switched rooms with the boys and have a completely new before situation... too horrid to share right now! I don't know when we'll get to the after. The living room is also under constant change and so is the TV room where the gallery wall is. So, since I cannot show you a finished room, I will show you a few corners of my home instead.

My grandmother's clock that my father inherited. My mum didn't feel it fitted in their new place after they moved, so I'm keeping it until they want it back. A little sneak peak from our living room into the TV room and the gallery wall in progress.

The 'new' sofa on loan from my friend. I still haven't changed the curtains and the vintage suitcase coffee table is a temporary solution... although I quite like it. It's all going to be white when I'm finished; the pillows, the table and curtains.

I'm sure our moss green seventies fridge is an environmental disaster and as soon as I can I'm getting a new one. In the meantime though, how classic is that colour combo: green, orange and a bit of faux wood?!

(P.S. I desperately want a new camera so I can snap some better photos... got any recommendations for me?)

Copenhagen dreaming...

Friends of mine are selling their flat in one of the best areas of Copenhagen. All of a sudden I'm daydreaming about cobbled streets, rye bread and bicycles...

Suitcase sofa

I just came across the website of Junktion, an unbelievably funky design firm in Tel Aviv. How cool is this suitcase sofa?! I smell a DIY project coming up (really? will I ever get round to it?)!

Picture Wall

I'm still undecided on the look of our gallery wall. I know (I think) it's going to be a "family wall", with pictures of and by family and friends. I've been gathering some inspiration here and there:

Random display from Apartment Therapy. Good for frames of different shapes and sizes. Some discipline needed in placing the pictures so it looks as cool as this.

Straight up and across from Desire to Inspire. Will only work if all your frames are the same size. But the pictures could all be different shapes and sizes in one type of frames. Notice the wall light.

On shelves from moline. Good for also displaying little items with the pictures, and also good if you want to keep changing the display.

I could also just hang pictures, no frames no nothing? There could be a million stories there. From Desire to Inspire.

This one is brilliant. I didn't even notice the tv until I started looking at the pictures more closely. Also from Desire to Inspire, but found on Apartment Therapy Housetours.

This could be fun; get a big frame and put a few different pictures in it, maybe do a collage. From enourmous champion sneak peak at design*sponge.

The wall won't be complete just yet, we're planning to take the boys to a photographer in a couple of months time, until then, I'll have plenty of time to look for inspiration. Do tell if you know of any great examples.

Some changes coming up...

We have a few changes coming up in our life soon and our home will definitely be reflecting them. So I thought it might be a good idea to show you our living room as it is now, and then let you follow the changes as they happen. First of all, we're expecting a new baby in a couple of weeks, but also my husband will be going back to school (starting monday actually) so he will need some office space. The only place for it is in the living room, so here we'll see most changes. I've been looking everywhere on the web for inspiration for home offices and I'll soon post a few of the pictures I've found. But for now, our living room:

We got the sofas at a thrift store for next to nothing. I had gone there by myself and had forgotten my phone, so I couldn't reach my husband. I got help at the store getting the sofas into my car (had to go two trips of course) but when I came to our flat I had to carrie them on my own. This was exactly a year ago and we had snow up to our knees. I don't know how I did it, I just knew I had to have them! The credenza we got off the Icelandic equivalent to Craigslist. It had legs originally, but we couldn't get it into the car with them on, so off they came and we never put them on again. Our son got the wheely bug for his first birthday from our Danish friends in London. I made the curtains with fabric from IKEA.

I love having double living rooms. In the bigger one we have the sitting area and dining, and in the smaller, where we actually spend the most time, we have the TV, books, mags and stuff like that. We decided to paint the wall between the two areas black to seperate them more visually. We decorated on a really tight budget, so most of the items are either thrifted, hand me downs or something really cheap from IKEA. Like the dining room chairs, they were the cheapest ones we found there. The table comes from my childhood home. We got the mirror from the window display in a shop my husband used to manage.

I really like the profile of the sofas, it reminds me of my grandfather's old armchair.

I'll soon be getting the most fantastic item to hang on that black wall. It used to belong to my grandmother and I have such fond memories of it from my childhood.

I made enough curtain wings so they could reach all the way across the room when drawn, also in the TV room.
