Today is an incredible, beautiful, lovely sunny day! For many reasons but in particular because a lovely little boy was born this morning. Congratulations Hrafnhildur and Halli, all the bestest of the best to you and your little fighter, I can't wait to see you!

... a new haircut. Today at one o'clock. I wonder what I will look like...? Better than now, for sure, my hair is falling off and I'm afraid I might have to go short. I've never had success with short hair, maybe now will be different? I'll put my hair in the hands of a genious and hope for the best!

Heaven for little girls!

I cannot believe I didn't know about polyvore before!!! It's like playing with paper dolls with endless outfits and accessories, and way cool and I'm only beginning. I expect to have a lot of fun with this, and you can expect more of these sets. How do you like my first try? It's for a chilled out sunday morning in a café, maybe with a slight hangover.

One day, Hubby and I will get married. We have been engaged for almost 3 years now, so you could say I've had plenty of time to plan the big day. So far, all I know is that I want to wear a vintage wedding dress, and what better place to start looking but at the Vintage Wedding Dress Company!

A great escape

I'm ignoring the mess in my house by keeping the lights off and staring straight into the tv, munching some chocolate thing I found at the back of the cupboard with the baking stuff. The kitchen smells of ketchup.

A skincare routine for a tired mum on a budget.

In the meantime, I'm trying to remember the recipie for a home-made face mask I made once. The base was thick porridge and then I mixed a few things in. A couple of crushed multi vitamin tablets for, well, vitamins. A bit of orange juice for gentle peeling. The contents of a green tea bag for anti oxidants I think. Perhaps there was some oil, I can't remember. And perhaps something else I've forgotten.
By the way, did you know that washing your hands with used coffee grounds not only cleans your hands incredibly well of paint and grease and such, but also leaves your hands silky smooth? The combination of scrubbing and the oils in the coffee I guess.
I also remember seeing a reicipie for a home-made foot soak at some point. I only remember that you were supposed to add lemon for whitening the nails and oil to smooth the skin. I guess you could scrub your feet with coffee grounds first, then soak them in warm water with lemon and oil.
Do you have any tips on cheap and cheerful products for tired looking skin? Something that counters the lack of sleep, stress, at times poor diet and age? Any recipies for home-made stuff? Please share :)

We're going on holiday!

I'm so excited! I managed to book us this little cottage in beautiful Snæfellsnes for a week in June. This is one of the most beautiful places in Iceland with the Snæfells glacier, beaches, little fishing villages, beautiful birdlife and all to be enjoyed around the 24 hour sunlight of summer solstice. I'm also very exited because believe it or not, my husband and I have never been on holiday together! Apart from visiting my parents over the holidays when we used to live in London. I'm seeing long walks and honest talks in the summer night, lots of time to read and listen to music, really having time for bonding with our little ones and just generally recharging our batteries.

Time saving tip No.1

Wear colourful socks! It's much quicker to pair them after laundering than if you have black socks that look almost the same but never quite (even if you buy exactly the same kind of socks always, they still end up looking different). And it's fun too :)

Starting small

I've been trying to figure out a way to start arranging a picture wall in our TV/family room but can't seem to decide on even the overall effect I want from it. But I did manage this little one above the changing table. In the white frame we put a card we got at the hospital with our son's footprint, the date and time of his birth, his weight and length and our names and the name of the midwife who delivered him. I found the 'S' block at a local charity shop (S is his initial) and the painting (by an artist called Hildur) was a present I got about 12 years ago from my dad's family when I graduated from architecture school. All are fixed with blue tac, which I hope will be strong enough when baby 'S' starts grabbing everything within reach! I'm going to add a Lack shelf for wipes, toys and perhaps a mobile above the pictures.
